Looking beyond the skin, into the character of Malti

Deepika Padukone’s Chhapaak look is already out. The Padmaavat actress took to social media, to share the first glimpse of Malti, Deepika’s character in the film, based on the acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal. Following the post, several images of her new look from the sets have surfaced in the internet, much ahead of the official poster and trailer release.

Recently, actor Vikrant Massey too shared a picture of himself, with Deepikar Padukone and the director Meghana Gulzar in the social media, to warm up Malti’s character and to make her character acceptable for the audiences. As per an industry insider, “Deepika is not looking like her normal self after the acid attack on her character, and it is important for the audience not to get shocked. Also, they are dealing with a very sensitive issue, and it is important to sensitise them to the kind of trauma that an acid attack victim goes through. So if they warm up to the look of the character, then they will look beyond the look when they watch the film.”

The title of the film, Chhapaak refers to the splashing sound of acid on the girl’s face, which turns her world upside down. The film is produced by Deepika Padukone and Meghna Gulzar in collaboration with Fox Star Studios, and is all set to hit the theaters on January 10, 2020.
